BRAVERY inward for Flixborough today, just above the Humber Bridge.
Groet,
Flip

Re: Dutch Flag on the Humber.
That's an interesting one Ben, it must date from after 1963 but before many of the docks were redeveloped.
It was like this when I went there as a management trainee in 1967.
You will know that the area west of Ship Dock, north of Barge Dock is now the RMS Terminal, the old Branch Dock and No3 Drydock were filled in.
Aldam Dock (which had the SSM Harlingen service off 33/34 Sheds) was later partly filled to make a terminal for Pal Line's Swedish service.
Most of the railway lines and all the coal-loading hoists also disappeared over the years.
But we can still recognise it as Goole!

Re: Dutch flag on the Humber.
In Evert's photo you can see just one dockside item from Ben's plan, the railway coal hoist which is on Railway Dock just north of the old 19 Shed.
Plus of course the two water towers (known as Salt and Pepper) north of West Dock, which have been there for many years now (the old one 'Salt' from Victorian days, the newer one 'Pepper' from 1930's I think).
Aldam Dock in 2007, the Pal Line service has since moved to Hull.
The top end of the dock and part of the east side were filled in, and the No3 Compartment Boat Hoist demolished in order to create these berths with space for containers.
The church tower continues to look down on the port!
This photo also shows the very high level of water in the port .... the town is 2-3 metres below the high water level and the port acts as its flood defence (improved in 2000/2001 with extra embankments and higher lock gates.
